So last Tuesday rolled around and we both decided that we had had just about enough of that work week. so we booked a flight to San Diego and told our bosses we were having eye problems and just couldn’t see ourselves coming into work for the rest of the week.
Day 1 – The Flight Leaves When?
So someone left me in charge of booking the flights, so we ended up with a flight out of Spokane at five in the morning. Not everyone in our party was thrilled with that. Thankfully Janel drove, so I could catch a couple winks on the way up.
When we got there, things started to look up. We went exploring. Luckily starting at the hotel, where a convenient bed was housed, we assumed for our use. Other sites that day include Old Town, Coronado, Point Lolma, the Gaslamp Quarter, etc.
We couldn’t actually get to Point Lolma because the park closed at five. Apparently the light house needed its rest.
Day 2 – Legoland Adventures!
On Thursday we went to Legoland! It was a blast.
They have all kinds of cool things built out of legos there. Miniland had a bunch of cities recreated with legos.
The inauguration was the special event happening there.
Some other things at Legoland include Abe Lincoln,
the thinker,
a dragon,
and Put-Put!
There was also a cool place to buy legos by the pound. Like the bulk section at WinCo.
There was also plenty of heroes around.
And a villain, with apprentice.
I got a cool lego set of a convertible car. I made a video of me putting it together. It took me around three hours, enjoy!
Day 3 – Sea World
On Friday we checked out Sea World. I was really close to our hotel. We went to a dolphin show, a sea lion show, and Shamu’s show. They were all pretty good. We only got wet at the dolphin one. After that we learned to sit a little ways back.
Those dolphins sure could jump.
You could pet the sting rays.
They had another show where cats and dogs did tricks. It was fun to see what they could get cats to do. This cat climbed up the poll and jumped down the guy who was supposed to catch it. He totally missed it though, poor cat.
We had a great time.
Day 4 – The Temple
We took the chance to visit the San Diego temple. What a site that was. It has to be the fanciest temple in the world. I mean everything was very upper-crust, what with the nearly free-standing spiral staircases, and the spires with all the stained glass. It was a great experience. We also met up with some of Janel's friends. Thanks Adrianne and Stuart for such a fun day around La Jolla.
Day 5 – The Return
We decided that we better return on Sunday so that we could make a good run at the coming work week, and hopefully do better than the previous week.
We ended up with an early flight again for some reason, so we had to set the alarm and wake up before the sun. When we got to the rental car place things turned sour. They weren’t open. Janel talked to some people on the phone who didn’t have a clue. They told her that it wouldn’t open until 6, which would be way too late for our plane, since the rental place wasn’t at the airport. I drove around frantic for a bit, even ended up on the wrong side a 8 lane highway. Luckily it was early still and there was only one truck in on-coming traffic, so I was able to deftly dodge it and some traffic cones to get back on the right side of the street. We ended up asking the AVIS guy about our guys and he was much more helpful. He said they opened at 4:30, so we just went back and waited for it to open. We nearly got into a scuffle with a lady I “cut off” because there was more people waiting for it open than just us. Oh well, we made it back!
