Today I made Andrew a sensory box, at least I think that is what the technical name is. He has one at preschool that he loves to play in and I have all these lentils filling my cupboard. In case you were not aware, the Palouse (where we live) is the number one producer of lentils for the world. We even have a National Lentil Festival in August that celebrate this legume. Come and visit, it is a lot of fun! So every year I stop by the pea and lentil commission’s booth and get my free bag of lentils with intentions of cooking with them. The pile in the cupboard was getting out of hand, so I made this instead with the lentils:
I bought a Rubbermaid container at Wal-Mart and poured the lentils in. I then bought some plastic dinosaurs and buried them in the lentils, along with a cup and a shovel.
When Andrew woke up from his nap, I showed him what I made. He loves it and played with it for a good 30 minutes straight, which is awesome! He dug for all the dinosaurs and covered them back up. He filled the cup and emptied it again. I think every month, I am going to do something different whether it is rice, beans or some other textures and other things to find in there. The dollar store is great for little plastic animals and kitchen utensils and other such things to play with in there.
I think he likes his new box. I told him to say cheese and smile and this is what I got. He is such a ham. He is into posing for his pictures now, which is so fun.
