Andrew’s New Look

Andrew got a tool bench for Christmas, but loves wearing his safety goggles around the house. He wears them quite often and I love it!  He is really getting into the pretend stage and sometimes I think he has an imaginary friend.  He will catch him talking to someone or playing with them, but he wont tell me who it is.  He loves to play and use his imagination with all of his toys.

Yesterday, he was in his bed, we have a convertible crib that we turned into a toddler bed, by taking off the side rail, so it still has the railings on the back.  He was laying  on his stomach against the rails and had both his hands and feet on the rails and climbing up the back of the bed.  I asked him what he was doing and he said “I’m Spiderman!”  Where does he come up with this stuff?!  I love watching kids use their imagination.  He is so much fun and I am so grateful he is part of our family.

We finally got a cat!  Her name is Pepper (or Miss Pepper Potts as I call her) and she is a tortoiseshell calico. She is 6 months old and in the kitten phase of life.  Aaron loves cats and always wanted one.  We were going to get one when we moved into the house, but a month later we had Andrew instead.  We decided to wait till Andrew was a little older.  Well Aaron has been talking about getting a cat for awhile.  I thought we would get one at Christmas but a few weeks ago, Aaron and Andrew went to the humane society and picked out a cat.  They went on a Saturday and when they found the cat they wanted, the lady working there asked Aaron why he wanted a cat.  He told her that he loves cats, his son loves cats and we wanted a cat for the family. She told him she didn’t think he was taking this seriously enough and didn’t feel comfortable sending a cat home with him.  She told him to fill out the paper work and come in Monday to have an interview with the manager.  Aaron told me good thing she didn’t deliver our son or we wouldn’t have been able to take him home.  Its just a cat!  So Monday Andrew and I went over and played with the kitty for a bit and decided to take her home.  I went to the desk, filled out the paper work, paid the money and we were out within half an hour, no questions asked.

We all love having Pepper around.  Andrew and Pepper have become good buddies and have a great time together.  It is now Andrew’s responsibility to feed Pepper and he does a good job, even though we have to remind him every now and then.

Happy Valentine’s Day

We had a great Valentine’s day.  I woke up before Aaron and Andrew and made heart shaped cinnamon rolls, strawberries and strawberry milk.  I also made little goodie baskets to put by their plates.  When I was growing up my mom would do little goodies on the holidays and set it by our plate at breakfast.  It was such a fun memory that I want to start it with my family.

Andrew and I had PS I Love You that morning so we made heart shaped sugar cookies and decorated them to take.  Andrew loved making sugar cookies, we need to do them more often.

The McLain family brought over heart shaped pizza from Papa Murphys for lunch.  We had a great time with them and that evening I made stuffed chicken, mashed potatoes and asparagus for dinner.
I told Aaron we didn’t need to do gifts, but he surprised me anyway. He told me that evening he hid my present and I needed to go find it.  I was our bedroom talking to a friend and was laying on my pillow but it didn’t feel right.  I looked under my pillow and there was a box of Godiva chocolates.  I went downstairs and thanked Aaron for my gift.  He asked if I found the other gift too.  He went upstairs with me and I looked all over the bed.   I lifted up my pillow and didn’t see anything too unordinary.  Aaron laughed and said it was my pillow.  He bought me a king size pillow!  I am sure I would have noticed when I went to bed and rolled to his side of the bed and the pillow was still there.  Since we bought a king size bed, I always wondered what it would be like to have king size pillows rather then a big gap between Aaron and my pillow.  It is wonderful to have a big pillow!  The next morning I didn’t want to get out of bed.  I am not a morning person, whatsoever.  Aaron laughed and said maybe I shouldn’t have gotten you a gift that will keep you in bed and makes it harder for you to get up in the mornings.  He will learn someday, but for now I will enjoy it!  Of course since I told him lets not do presents, I didn’t get him anything.  I felt horrible but Aaron forgave me by making yummy food.
We had such a great Valentine’s day!  In the past Aaron and I would do something with just the two of us after Andrew went to bed, but I loved celebrating Valentine’s day together as a family.
